The journal was founded in 1971 by Nobel Laureate, Academician Nikolai G. Basov (1922–2001) as a bimonthly collection of articles by Radio i Svyaz Publishers; since 1974, a monthly journal. Has been translated into English since the first issue. In 1971–1992, the translated journal was published under the title Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, and since 1993 under the title Quantum Electronics. Since 1997, Quantum Electronics has a website http://turpion.ioc.ac.ru in Russia and http://www.turpion.org in the USA.
